For the week-end
In the country
High above a little waterfall, these tree houses stand out from any others - the latest is 22 metres (72 ft) high, which earns it the title of the highest tree house in Europe. The lovely surroundings and the Château de Canon add to the charm of your stay.Until it was supplanted by the "Nid d'Aigle" (Eagle's Nest), the 16 m high (52 ft) "Cascade" tree house was considered to be the highest in France, overlooking the little river which gave it its name. It has an area of 15 m² (160 sq ft) and can accommodate two people. Its little sister, 10 m (33 ft) above the ground, is also very cosy and can accommodate 3 people. To reach the summit you take a wooden staircase and two rope bridges in complete safety. The accommodation is out of the ordinary and the setting is pastoral… the tree houses are sited in the midst of the park surrounding the Château de Canon, with a unique view of its ancient trees. The Château, deep in the Pays d'Auge region, is still occupied by the descendants of its founder. You will want to take advantage of your visit to visit the estate gardens, the splendid chartreuse and the park with its many streams, or follow the farm animal discovery trail with its free range chickens, ducks, guinea fowl, turkeys and pheasants, not forgetting the llama. The latest arrival, however, is the the Nid d'Aigle tree house, which at 22 metres high (72 ft) breaks every record! It is the highest tree house in Europe, built in the fork of a 250 year-old Oriental plane tree. The south-facing patio gives you a splendid view of the surrounding countryside, from the canopy of the Château gardens, a wind generator, the hills of the Pays d'Auge, and the Normandy Canal. A total change of scene!... read more
