How about sleeping in a lighthouse in the Eure countryside? Only two lighthouses in France offer accommodation, so it is a truly rare holiday experience!Surely everyone has dreamed of taking refuge in one of these idealised romantic ivory towers. There is no need to travel thousands of kilometres. Not far from the picturesque port town of Honfleur, standing tall in the quiet countryside (a surprising location indeed), the lighthouse is actually a guest house. The place was put up for auction in 1923 and was won by Gaston David. In 2000, his granddaughter opened 5 guestrooms, with 1 especially for families. You will have your breakfast on the ground floor of the lighthouse, which allows you to admire the magnificent stairway. The actual structure of the tower is too narrow to place bedrooms so you will be sleeping in the old lighthouse keeper’s home. The owners also offer you the chance to go right to the top of the extraordinary place, a visit that is only available for guests. You will have to climb 164 steps in order to reach the 32m high summit but you will be treated to incomparable views of the Seine estuary and the Pont de Normandie.
