Giverny: this is where Claude Monet set up his easel and lived for many years. While the Monet Foundation pays tribute to the Master of Impressionism, the Monet Garden allows us to get to know the man better."Monet's Garden is one of his works of art …", as the French President Clémenceau, a close friend of Monet, said. There are places where time seems to have stopped, and Monet's Garden is one of these.
Strolling along the alleys, we stop from time to time to contemplate this nature that the hand of man has enhanced, that of the gardener, something of a "painter of the concrete". Like Monet in his time, we are drawn to linger beside the water garden with its Japanese bridge, water lilies, wisteria and azaleas. This setting, designed by the Master himself, where he loved to sit, inspired many of his canvases including the famous Water Lilies and the Japanese Bridge. Monet's Garden offers a delightful spectacle throughout the year, with different varieties of flowers succeeding each other in bloom without a break. Despite this, visitors are more numerous in May and June, while summer is especially noteworthy for the flowering of the famous water lilies. In Autumn the beauty of the dahlias and the first purple leaves are a delight for visitors. The master of Impressionism would no doubt have been overjoyed to know that his work had been perpetuated in this way.
